    Being All I Can Be

army_logo.gifI just got today's mail and in it was a solicitation to enlist in the U.S. Army. Imaging that! Included in the ad was an offer for a free Army water bottle. (You're going to need that in the Iraqi desert, son.) Thankfully, I'm too old and fat to serve my country in that capacity anymore, and oh by the way, I already served in the Air National Guard, but thanks for the opportunity to get an RPG launched up my ass in the name of Halliburton and Gulf.  Don't get me wrong, I support our troops completely, and I think they have done an admirable job in the face of a seemingly impossible scenario. But with U.S. military causualties swiftly approaching the 4,000 mark and the cost of the war estimated at $177 Million a day, I have to wonder about the strategy of slick recruiting ad campaigns (including big-dollar NASCAR sponsorships) when President Bush is telling us that we're in Iraq until at least 2009, which will obviously become his legacy once he leaves office. If even 1/50th of the money spent on the war was being spent on alternate renewable energy sources, America would be better off in the long haul.
