    Sour Grapes

pro_bowl.gifIn the "I'm Taking My Ball and Going Home" department, QB Tom Brady and WR Randy Moss, the record-setting passing tandem for the 18-1 New England Patriots this season, have decided they will not attend the Pro Bowl in Hawaii next week. The team reported that Brady turned down the trip due to his ankle issues (see Das Boot below) even though that ankle was reported to be a "non-issue" by ESPN the day before the Super Bowl and there was no indication of re-injury during the game. The team did not immediately disclose Moss' reason for backing out, but surely they'll let us know when they come up with something. The timing of their decisions is certainly suspect in light of the Patriots stunning 17-14 loss to the New York Giants in Super Bowl XLII, when they were 12-pt favorites to win and become the first undefeated team in the NFL since the 1972 Miami Dolphins. Wah. The NFL announced that two players who are more than happy to fly out to Hawaii for VIP treatment, Cleveland Browns QB Derek Anderson and Cincinnati Bengals WR Chad Johnson, would replace Brady and Moss, respectively. Anderson threw for 3,787 yds and 29 TD passes vs. 19 interceptions as he brought last year's mediocre Browns to the brink of the playoffs in 2007, while Johnson joins teammate T.J. Houshmandzadeh
