Fitting In With the Spin 'n Win

Montoyawin.jpgNo siree, it didn't take Juan Pablo Montoya long to figure out NASCAR racing. The former Indy 500 winner and 1999 CART champion became the first Latin American ever to win a NASCAR racing event by winning the Busch race in Mexico, the name of which is too long to pronounce or spell here. Unfortunately, he had to take out Scott Pruett, the polesitter and his Gnassi Racing teammate, in the process. Even though he was able to charge back up to 5th, the oft-snakebitten Pruett had few kind words for Montoya after the race, describing Montoya's move as a "rookie mistake" and "a chicken-shit shot from behind". Pruett might be right about the latter, but 42car.jpgmake no mistake about it--Montoya has driven enough road courses in his day to know what he was doing. The Mexican crowd relished watching a Latino win in a Gringo-dominated racing series, evidently blessed with a short memory after chastising Kyle Busch last year for driving like a turd on steroids. In any event, Montoya certain got noticed with the spin & win move, perhaps enough so to grab the attention of a team like Hendrick Motorsports that hired away the last #42 driver, Casey Mears, and has been known to employ its share of spinsters in the past (and present).
